PDO Index

The Pacific decadal oscillation describes an ocean-atmosphere climate variability centered over the mid-latitude Pacific basin. During the positiv (warm) phase, the middle and west Pacific becomes cooler while the eastern regions warms. The negative (cool) phase has the opposite pattern.


The warm phase intensifies El Niños, the cool phase intensifies the pattern of an La Niña.
